LEGO Shoes And Shoes For Life – Lower Your Footprint With LYF Shoes.

LYF Shoes - Pinstripe StyleLYF Shoes must know something about how much people love LEGOs because they’re using the same building-block principles to change the way we buy, repair and wear our shoes. Here’s more about LYF Shoes:

“Individual components are made from single-source sustainable materials and are assembled in 90 seconds to meet a customer’s request. This bypasses those monolithic shoe assembly factories which use toxic glues and ship boxes of air halfway around the world. Our technology allows us to pursue many more fashion, fit and ecological advances than the big brands can – while still being competitive with them on price.

We’ve also unlocked unlimited creative expression using digital integration tools, and created the first LYF Cyclable shoe.”

LYF Shoes are currently on fundraising site Kickstarter.

Humane Society’s ‘Seals Need Our Help’ Video.

Seals Need Our Help - HSIBelieve it or not, they’re still clubbing harp seal pups in Canada. The “Seals Need Our Help” video is a reminder that even though demand for products containing seal fur is down, and even banned in many countries, the hunt continues. Calling it a hunt is a stretch; it’s more like real-life Whac-A-Mole with a hakapik instead of a padded mallet.

Andrew Ucles Enlists The Help Of Venomous Snakes To Catch Invasive Rabbits In Australia.

Andrew Ucles barehanded animal catchesThis is so Aus-some. Skipping the pindone poison treated carrots or oats, Andrew Ucles is going old-school to catch rabbits by chasing them into their holes and then siccing some venomous snakes on Australia’s invasive rodents. After watching the video below, it came to me that the most Jubbling way for the US to get rid of our invasive species (ie Asian carp, Burmese pythons etc.) is to import a bunch of shirtless Aussies to do the job. Just sayin. [Treehugger]

If You Hand-Knit A Sweater For A Giraffe…

San Francisco 49ers’ Are Super Bowl XLVII Champs…. In Sub-Saharan Africa And Mongolia.

Super Bowl loser's Chicago Bears shirts in Zambia

Colts defeat Bears 29-17 in Super Bowl XLI everywhere but Zambia.

Before the San Francisco 49ers and Baltimore Ravens even hit the field, apparel of all types were being printed that proclaim each team as the Super Bowl XLVII winner. When the game ends, what does the NFL do with the losing team’s gear? They used to have it destroyed but for the last 17 years, the NFL has donated the world’s 2nd best football team’s gear to World Vision. World Vision then sorts through and distributes up to 100,000 articles of clothing to countries around the world – sweatshirts to cold climates and t-shirts to countries with warm climates.

So don’t fret too much 49ers’ fans – you didn’t win Super Bowl XLVII but you did earn some Jubbling points in Mongolia and possibly Malawi where they think you are the champions – it’ll say so right on their shirts! [Bloomberg via Consumerist]
