K-Tor Pocket Socket And Power Box

K-Tor Power Box ChargerPortable chargers like K-Tor’s Pocket Socket ($49) and Power Box ($150) are simple ideas that are packed with awesomeness.

K-Tor Pocket Socket RechargerThe Pocket Socket’s is a hand-crank generator with a max output of 10w and is targeted toward emergency charging of cellphones, portable lighting etc. The collapsible and portable Power Box is a pedal-powered generator that produces up to 20w of power; enough to re-charge a laptop, tablet and of course, cellphones.

I’d like the see a video of K-Tor’s Power Box in use. If it’s not too loud, it could be the perfect product for anyone looking to sneak in a little exercise while they charge and work on their laptop. [GizMag]

PG Elektrus EV – Inspired By The Lotus Elise Or Was It Toothless From “How To Train Your Dragon”?

How To Train Your Dragon's Toothless and PG Elektrus

Kid Appeal: Did Toothless from How To Train Your Dragon inspire PG's Elektrus EV?

Another electric vehicle, another cartoon character lookalike.
Lotus Elise

Or Lotus Elise?

Berlin based electric vehicle maker PG has just launched their $367,000 Elektrus that has a max speed of 155 mph and an expected range of 215 miles on one charge. Toothless, aka Night Fury, from “How To Train Your Dragon” has a max speed of “very very fast” and an unknown range. So what’s the inspiration: Lotus or Toothless? [Inhabitat]

What Causes Phantom Traffic Jams?

YouTube Preview ImageVideo from The Mathematical Society of Traffic Flow

How many times have you been caught in a traffic jam only to be “released” from it and realize that there was no accident? Boing Boing posted a follow up article to their original about the reasons behind cause-less traffic jams based on an MIT study. The MIT team found that speed, vehicle density and other factors determine the how quickly a jam inevitably and evenly spread like a shockwave through highway traffic.

Jubbling’s take: Engine idling in traffic burns .026 gallons of fuel and releases 9.5 ounces of CO2 every 10 minutes. Since the only factor car drivers can manage is their speed, it might be in our best interest to slow down and maintain a constant speed to possibly reduce the duration of traffic jams.

Ronald Reagan Is Jubbling

Ronald Reagan Supercarrier and car ferry.

The Ronald Reagan Supercarrier in the Puget Sound

My Picture of the Ronald Reagan in the Puget Sound.

Ok, maybe not the actual Ronald Reagan but the USS Ronald Reagan supercarrier which recently changed ports from San Diego CA to the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton WA. On its flight-deck, facing a single F-18 fighter, were the vehicles of the Reagan’s sailors. The cars could’ve been trucked/railroaded up here separately or Jubblingly ferried up on the deck of the supercarrier. We’re happy to see they allowed the latter. [Gizmodo.com]

I Want The Toyota Prius C

Toyota Prius C (City) CenterfoldFor friend* and family, I promise that if I do purchase the Toyota Prius C, I will not think I’m better than you by choosing to only hang out with other hybrid drivers. They probably don’t want me around much either.

The new Toyota Prius C could be the hybrid that people have been waiting for and it’s set to be released in spring 2012. Like the standard Prius, the Prius C still seats 5 passengers but has a lower MSRP of just under $19k. It’s designed for start-stop city driving and that’s why its EPA fuel economy rating for city driving, 53 MPG, exceeds what you’d receive on the highway (46 MPG). Combined, the Prius C will get 50 MPG powered by a smaller version of Toyota’s Hybrid Synergy Drive (HSD) that produces 99 hp versus the standard model’s 134 hp. You probably wouldn’t tow a boat with either model so bring on the small.

The combination of price, fuel efficiency and the fact that Toyota’s hybrid engines are now a mature technology make the Prius C a car to seriously consider if you’re in the market for a new vehicle. [Treehugger and LATimes.com]

Michelin Challenge Design: The Look Of Electric Vehicles In The Future Will Be Inspired By Comic Book And Pokemon Characters

Renault Zoe ZE Electric Vehicle vs Bulbasaur Pokemon

I also believe that children are our future, teach them well and design future cars to look like their favorite Pokemons? In my search for Jubbling stories, I came across this article on Inhabitat about this years’ Michelin Challenge Design at the 2012 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The winners of Michelin’s future electric vehicle challenge (and their corresponding character) were Honda’s P-NUT (The Spawn), Renault’s Zoe ZE (Bulbasaur Pokemon) and Tata’s eMo (Nidorina Pokemon).

In our Jubbling opinion, this is great and we hope automakers borrow from whatever Pokemon, comic book or cartoon characters they want in their effort to sway future auto buyers to electric vehicles.
