Is It Possible To Have An Eco-Friendly, Green, Sustainable And Vegan Super Bowl Party? Should You?

We decided to re-post our article on how much you should or shouldn’t Jubbling-up your Super Bowl party this Sunday. Most of it still works except this year, the game is between the New England Patriots and New York Giants. Not rooting for either team so we hope the game ends up in a TIE.

Eco-friendly, Green, Sustainable and Vegan Super Bowl Party?

Lombardi Trophy-Hugging

It seems like every major holiday and event arrives with a spate of green and eco-friendly articles on how to enjoy it and this year’s Super Bowl is no different. From what you eat and drink to how you watch the Super Bowl; ideas for “greening up” the Super Bowl and Super Bowl parties are everywhere and it can be a little overwhelming. You can even find vegan recipes ideas to serve at your Super Bowl party. Please note, if you do go the vegan route, you must forewarn your guests or just go all the way and secretly add the O’Douls non-alcoholic beer to the mix so the beating you receive when they find out is even more deserved.

This prompted Jubbling to offer one Super Bowl recommendation of its own: don’t feel compelled to over green it. Janet Jackson Wardrobe Malfunction Super Bowl Maybe it’s at your house or at a local bar – either way, enjoy the game and try not to think too much about what you might be doing wrong. We can Tofurky the heck out of Thanksgiving and Valentines Day was almost invented for Jubbling but the Super Bowl is different. It’s a day with friends that is as much about indulging [some] as it is a day that Janet Jackson can expose her breast on national TV. Implement the Jubbling ideas that work but don’t over do it.

Lets face it, shooting and then roasting a berry loving Black Bear because you hate the Chicago Bears is extreme but so is watching the Super Bowl on a 5.5″ black & white hand-cranked TV while munching on tree bark. Find your Jubbling happy place, do what you can and then relish the Green Bay Packers victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers this Super Sunday. And don’t feel the need to root for the Packers because they’re “Green” Bay.

Orbea bicycles are expensive. Their new Grow series for kids is also expensive but will partially counter the high price by adjusting, expanding and growing with our kids. So far, Orbea has a pedal-less Grow 0 model for 1.5 – 4 year olds, the Grow 1 bicycle for 2.5 – 5 year olds, and the Grow 2 models for 4 – 9 year olds that comes in geared (7V) and un-geared (1V) versions. With the Grow 1 & 2, you can adjust the frame length plus the seat and handlebar height.

Although their price is on the high side, $235 (Grow 0) to $340 (Grow 2-7V), all Orbea bikes come standard with a lifetime warranty which will come in handy if you only have one kid now but are planning on having 5 or more. [Treehugger.com]

Carbon Neutral Indoor Ski Resort Makes Everything Else Carbon Neutral Suck More

Ok, we survived Seattle’s Snowmageddon last week but Jubbling.com had to suffer another post-free week. Of course I blame my kids for this and will now find a way to put them to work furthering the Jubbling cause.
Proposed Carbon Neutral Indoor Ski Resort in Barcelona
What did we miss? How about the proposed indoor carbon neutral ski resort that is planned for 2015 in Barcelona Spain. Yes, they need snow because it’s not available year round and to appease and appeal to the green folks, they’ll make it carbon neutral by using the cool energy that is generated when sub-zero liquefied natural gas is converted back to its gaseous state. In addition to the converted natural gas, the indoor ski resort will use solar and plant waste to power the facility. Dutch company SnowWorld, builder’s of Dubai’s indoor Ski Dubai, will be construct the facility in partnership with B01 Arquitectes of Barcelona.

Jubbling’s take: Nature defying projects like this kill us. Yes, they are making an effort to consume less resources and we normally see good in those kind of efforts. But this “tickle and slap” faux environmental-sensitivity drives us nuts! Save the layer of green paint, take a step back and just admire the amount of sucking that goes into a project like an indoor ski resort built in a city that most people want to escape to during the winter months. Instead of figuring out how to build it, they should really wonder why. [Treehugger.com]

Push For Sustainable Merchandise At 2012 London Olympics

Earth-huggingest Emmy Awards! Eco-friendliest Winter Olympics! Red carpet at the Oscars made from recycled plastic bottles! It’s now a requirement that all the big events require some serious eco-plastering and the 2012 London Olympics are now in line trying to get their sustainable credentials. An article posted in The Guardian, 2012 Olympic organisers urged to support sustainable merchandise push, outlines some of the London Organising Committee’s efforts to make this the “greenest Olympic Games ever.”

If you want to be an officially licensed supplier of merchandise for the 2012 Olympics, you have to show that your products are ethically and sustainably manufactured and meet high environmental standards.

We love sustainable and the Olympics and we think coming up with mascots that nobody would ever want as a stuffed toy or on their clothing is a great start. [Guardian]

Scottish Wind Farm Builders, We Have A Solution To Get Donald Trump Off Your Backs.

Donald Trump is choosing to be an arse in Scotland because being a dong in the U.S. was not enough. First, he pushed through his plan to build a 36 hole golf resort just north of Aberdeen on a protected stretch of Scottish coastline and now he’s opposing the installation of an 11-turbine offshore wind farm. In his words they’re “big, ugly structures” and their installation would be “disastrous and environmentally irresponsible.”

The planning application for the wind farm was submitted by Marine Scotland in August 2011 and would be constructed under a joint venture between Vattenwall (utility), Technip (engineering) and the Aberdeen Renewable Energy Group.

Now they could fight Trump or they could take our unsolicited advice on how to get his support and complete their wind farm project:

Trump - The Wind Turbine
Donald Trump loves seeing name and I’m sure his people will kick in for the cost of the decal. He’ll move on and you’ll get your clean energy – it’s a win win. Putting “Trump” on the blades would probably be overkill but you should leave that option open [because he loves seeing his name].

LEDSSPORT’s Pulastic LEDCourt Turns One Sports Court Into Many

LEDSSPORT Pulsatic LEDCourt
How do you play volleyball, tennis, basketball and soccer on the same indoor surface? Look no further than LEDSSPORT’s Pulastic LEDCourt. Its pulastic synthetic surface is lit with low-power consuming LEDs to match the sport being played. Compared to the current method of lining one indoor surface with multiple lines to match as many sports, LEDSSPORT’s LEDCourt will definitely help reduce confusion. Now, if they can only keep the cost down. [Gizmodo.com]
